LEDs with that little extra touch
When a decision had to be made about the lighting in Brunel’s new office building in Eindhoven, one word was circled in red in the facility manager’s diary: LEDs. The provider of the eventual lighting solution only has one more letter: ETAP.
High Tech Campus in Eindhoven (HTCE) is sometimes referred to as the smartest square kilometre in the Netherlands. The land accommodates more than 135 companies that provide innovative services or products. At the end of 2014, Brunel, a recruitment agency for professionals operating on a global scale, moved into HTCE 97, a brand-new 4-storey building with a surface area of 1,650 m². Since the building is located along one of the approach roads to the campus, it was called “De Entree” (Entry). “De Entree” has a transparent appearance, featuring lots of glass and a central stairwell to the various floors.

In line with the High Tech Campus philosophy, high-quality sustainable materials and technologies were applied during construction. Brunel – almost as a matter of course – ended up with ETAP for its sustainable lighting. “The basic principle was obvious,” according to Nienke van de Stolpe, facility assistant at Brunel. “We only wanted LED lighting, for reception, corridors, offices and conference rooms.” The list with additional requirements was a little longer: lighting had to be comfortable and uniform; with sufficient shielding to prevent glare; highly specific luminous flux and excellent maintenance factor. “In addition, the luminaires had to fit in with the new-build’s innovative vibe,” adds Nienke van de Stolpe.
They opted for ETAP's U7 series. These recessed luminaires meet all of the aforementioned criteria – the LEDs still achieve 87% of their luminous flux after 50,000 burning hours – and with their minimalist LED+LENS™ design they do justice to the HTCE 97 aura.
Bonus
“Our people are very pleased with the lighting,” states Nienke van de Stolpe. “We are confident that the energy-efficient LED luminaires, teamed with light control will lead to considerable savings in energy consumption.”
