Made to measure with a capital M
Approximately half of luminaires produced by ETAP are custom made: fixtures that deviate from our standard range to a greater or lesser degree. For the insurance company Coöperatieve VGZ in Arnhem, we developed a special luminaire that perfectly integrates into the wooden slat ceiling.
The Coöperatieve VGZ headquarters form part of an office project on the site of Arnhem‘s new railway station. The latter is a design by the renowned Dutch architect Ben Van Berkel. The building‘s eye catcher is a huge, wavy ceiling that is made up of wooden slats. During the station‘s construction, the VGZ building was thoroughly renovated and expanded. The ceiling was extended into the new section and currently spans over the larger conference room and a number of offices on the second floor.
Masterpiece
Together with BAM techniek in Apeldoorn and consultancy HIJ5 Regiepartners Nieuwleusen, ETAP designers came up with a construction whereby LED diffusers and custom-made brackets were built into recesses in the slats. The result is a masterpiece, whereby the luminaires undulate in the spectacular ceiling. The station and office building are separated by glazing, so that the ceiling visually extends between both buildings.
Efficient
In addition to the design, a lot of attention was also paid to effectiveness and the energy-efficiency aspect. Thanks to the HaloOptics diffuser and quality LEDs, VGZ employees enjoy sufficient lumen output (500 lux on the worktop). In addition, all luminaires can be dimmed for extra energy savings. Besides diffusers, ETAP also delivered D1 and D3 downlights on several circulation routes. They opted for the K9 for their emergency lighting. Flare spots were installed in the sanitary facilities.
The renovated VGZ head office stands out with its architectural boldness and sustainability. In other words, the ideal environment for ETAP lighting.
