Service contract emergency lighting: one less worry
ETAP keeps Telenet installation functional and in compliance with the standards.
From now on, Telenet will let ETAP perform the maintenance of the emergency lighting installation at its headquarters in Mechelen. “We do not take any risk when it comes to the safety of our employees,” declares Manager of Infrastructure Ronny Verbruggen. “That is why we prefer to leave the maintenance of the emergency lighting to professionals, which gives us optimal confidence.” The service of ETAP goes beyond replacing defective lamps or batteries.
The headquarters of Telenet in Mechelen measures over 30,000 m2. The emergency lighting installation presently exists out of roughly 550 luminaires, installed during the last ten years. “The installation is relatively new and modern,” says Verbruggen, “but of course it has to be inspected and serviced every year.”
Work for specialists
Telenet has now decided to let ETAP perform the specialized maintenance of the emergency lighting installation. “That is the best guaranty of safety for the 1900 employees in Mechelen,” says Verbruggen. “We used to do the maintenance ourselves, but that was limited to corrective maintenance, especially interventions based on error-detection of the luminaires. With this new service contract we will now also have preventative maintenance. This way we can be sure that everything will function correctly in case of an emergency. Furthermore, ETAP will log all inspection and service activities, in accordance with the standards and regulatory requirements.”
Each service is a safety audit
The maintenance service performed by ETAP goes beyond the replacement of lamps or batteries. Jef Maes, Country Manager BeLux for ETAP, clarifies: “Safety takes precedence, that’s why our maintenance service is actually always a kind of safety audit for the entire installation. We repair defective luminaires, but at the same time we also do a preventative check to see if all parts of the installation still meet the standards. And we make sure that all luminaires still perform in a normal way. The final element of our service is a report in which we give the customers advice. We suggest interventions required to meet the standards, or modifications that will make the installation and the maintenance thereof more efficient.”
Telenet opts for perfect ceiling-lighting integration
For the Telenet headquarters in Mechelen, the architects chose ETAP lighting luminaires. They were especially enthusiastic about the possibility of perfectly integrating the luminaires into the ceiling.
In consultation with architects Poponcini & Lootens and design office RCR, Telenet opted for a closed linear plank ceiling 225C from Hunter Douglas. The lighting solution was to be optimally integrated into the ceiling. It was decided to incorporate the special ETAP recessed luminaires into the metal planks. For this, ETAP punched the necessary holes into the ceiling planks, so that the luminaires perfectly fit into the holes. The reflector floats in the ceiling and there is no coarsely finished edge. Ceiling and lighting form one harmonious whole. The ISOLUM® reflectors with their ingenious light concept provide excellent light control and enhance the light comfort for the user. They direct the light and shield it where necessary. Telenet also emphasised the need for energy efficiency. The high efficiency of the reflectors allowed the absorbed power in the building to be reduced to a strict minimum. As a result, 949 luminaires 1x54W could be used instead of the initially planned 949 units 2x28W. The resulting specific power of only 1,67 W/m²/100 lux not only earns Telenet a higher REU (Rational Energy Use) premium from network operator Eandis, but also substantially brings down the energy bill. At Telenet, aesthetics and energy efficiency go hand in hand.
