Efficient lighting in a homely environment
Comfort, safety and privacy, were the requirements the health care centre Het Weggeler in Almelo had to meet. Add sustainability and energy-efficiency and it comes as no surprise that the client went for ETAP lighting.
Het Weggeler is more than just a care health care institution. The complex comprises 28 two-bed flats for the disabled and 52 one-bed flats for patients with dementia. In addition it offers facilities for seniors from the neighbourhood, such as day-care, hairdresser and a large restaurant. As a result Het Weggeler also fulfils an important meeting function in the neighbourhood.
“Creating a homely atmosphere was one of our main concerns,” states Mark Kranenbarg, head of real estate for the client TMZ (TriviumMeulenbeltZorg). This resulted in an interior with warm colours and materials, including wood. “The lighting had to fit into this,” according to Mark Kranenbarg, “but in addition illuminance and power consumption were important factors.”
Expertise in tailored solutions
ETAP’s D42 downlights were chosen for the rooms and corridors. “They provide enough light for nursing staff, who have to be able to treat residents at their bedside, where necessary,” explains Gerard te Vaanholt of Löwik Installatietechniek. “Due to their specific design the luminaires furthermore exude a cosy feel. The luminaires in the rooms are dimmable for the residents’ extra comfort.”
Since no system ceilings were used in the building, ETAP’s expertise in tailored solutions represented an additional asset. “We have developed special recessed units together with ETAP for installation on the concrete ceilings,” according to Gerard te Vaanholt. “The luminaire itself was also adapted.”
Elsewhere in the building – near the lift and near the entrance to each room, among others, D1 downlights were installed. The stairwell features stylish, vertically mounted R8 luminaires.
“We have consciously chosen LEDs in order to lower the energy bill,” concludes Mark Kranenbarg. “Since we will have to replace the lamps less often, we also expect extra ROI.
