Striving after sustainable energy consumption
Headquartered in Niestetal, near Kassel, SMA Solar Technology AG develops, produces and sells solar inverters, the most crucial component in any solar power system. Fuelled by exceptional growth, the SMA group has for years been the leader in this market segment.The company is listed on the TecDAX, it currently employs some 3,000 people, and generated a turnover of approx. € 680 million in 2008.
Such immense growth requires continuous investment in production, development and administrative buildings and systems. These areas also reflect the company’s commitment to sustainable energy use. The latest building complex – the world’s largest solar inverter plant – was officially inaugurated on 1/7/2009. In the administrative unit, common rooms, staircases and on the various floors, a total of 340 modern, high efficiency ETAP R5 luminaires of 2 x 35W, both surface and suspended versions, create a pleasant working atmosphere at the VDU workstations. All luminaires are equipped with ELS – ETAP’s daylight harvesting system – to ensure minimum energy cost.
The production halls are lit by 1,819 ETAP E5 continuous row luminaires with 2 x 80 W per luminaire, allowing a lighting level of up to 1000 lux to be obtained. Thanks to the perfect anti-glare shielding of the E58, a suitable lighting comfort for demanding visual tasks could be achieved. SMA’s policy to promote CO2-neutral production was the decisive factor in its choice for ETAP.
